One important barrier to effective stress self-care is your attitude towards stress.

If you view stress as indicating personal weakness or failing, you are more likely to focus on addressing your perceived shortcomings, rather than healthy stress management strategies. For instance, you may force yourself to ‘tough it out’ in the hope that you can show yourself as resilient.

Alternatively, you could ‘normalise’ stress as a common and natural consequence of a busy life. This other viewpoint can reduce toxic self criticism, moving your focus towards mitigation behaviours (e.g., taking more breaks, seeking support to manage workload).
